I awoke with a start on Christmas Eve Floorboards rumblin’ beneath my feet A sound from downstairs, like Christmas songs And someone's down there singing along Gingerly I climbed out of my bed and tip-toed down step by step At the foot of the staircase, through the open door I saw a mysterious shadow dancing on the wall Jumping up and down, arms waving around With tree lights flashin’ and the music so loud Windows were rattlin' to the Christmas tunes As I took a sneak-peak into the room By the record player was a figure I knew A fat old fella in a bright red suit It was Santa dancing with a smile so wide He looked to me with a tear in his eye saying “my oh my, I just can’t believe that they wrote all these great songs for me!” As he put on another festive 45 Said “this one’s an old favourite of mine” Then he held out his hand and asked with glee "May I have this dance on Christmas eve?" I awoke with a start on Christmas day Out on the couch, too much dreaming again I looked at my records scattered around the room And heard the gentle clicking of the run-out groove When something caught my eye under the Christmas tree Red and white wrapping on a new LP And on it a note, signed with a great big kiss said “please can we dance again next Christmas?”

You've got that lost look, I know it so well You look like I feel, so I can tell You're waiting for something, your head's in the clouds And dreams fall like snowflakes that melt on the ground As snow is falling Ain't it lovely to see So dream that this Christmas The loneliness will end And everyone out in the cold Is welcomed home again Let's make amends 'Cause I believe, truly believe In Christmas It's not now or never, it's every year But no one can tell if the next one will be that last one we cheer So promise me something before you go That you'll tell your loved ones how you need them so You say 'see you later' Well see that you do And dream that this Christmas The loneliness will end And everyone out in the cold Is welcomed home again Let's make amends 'Cause I believe, truly believe So here is a dream for Christmas

Oh Santa Claus, where are you now? I'm in a funk, I'm moping around Bring me some cheer, something to sing about How will I know when you're back in town? Oh Santa Claus , it's rubbish without you I'm up all night, just thinking about you And now I fear you might not make it I feel my heart is so close to breaking Oh Santa Claus Hold back your tears, please don't you worry I'm on my way, you'll see in the morning Hurry to sleep, be sure to dream of me Then gifts you'll find under the Christmas tree Across the sky and over the rooftops I live in the past, the present and future Keep Christmas well, be truly said of us So one and all, a Merry Christmas Said Santa Claus Oh Christmastime, hold me so near You're in my heart all through the year Keep Christmas well, be truly said of us And so I wish you a Merry Christmas Merry Christmas!

Waking up at midday without a care There’s a bright riot at the mid-winter fair Snowball fights break out in the square So if you love Christmas, we’ll see you there We're headfirst Into Christmas! Matinee lovers skating arm in arm Merrily kids playing long after dark Carollers sing beneath the stars Strike dear Christmas and cure the heart Drunk office workers in festive jumpers The cheerful whistle of late-night shoppers Wide eyed youngsters look up in wonder Trying to spy a flying reindeer! We’re headfirst Into Christmas Granddads in party hats and Sunday best Fantastic tales of Christmases past Top of the Pops back on the TV Flossing around the Christmas tree Let the Christmas spirit ring! We’re headfirst into Christmas! We’re headfirst into Christmas!

Listen Can you hear the snowfall? From a winter sky So very beautiful Drifting Feel yourself drifting Close your eyes Don't worry what you're missing Step outside into wintertime Hold me close and hold me tight All night Can you feel the snowflakes? Landing like a thousand Tiny icy kisses on your face December Half way out the dark Blanketed together Next year could be ours Step outside into wintertime Hold me close and hold me tight All night Can you hear the snowfall? Can you hear the snowfall? Can you hear the snowfall?
